Research, identification and preservation of historical and cultural heritage is one of the priority areas of activity of the Scholalrly Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University Taras Shevchenko. The monograph is devoted to the study of monuments of underwater heritage located in the territorial waters of Ukraine and related to the events of the Eastern (or Crimean) War of 1853–56. The author summarizes the results of Ukrainian underwater archaeological explorations on the Black Sea shelf - both those in which he directly participated (until 2014) and those whose reports were processed by him. Artifacts recovered from sunken British ships are described.
