Bohdan Kohut was born in 1921 in Berezhanshchyna region. During many years he suffered from repeated repressions: in 1939 - from the direction of Polish chauvinists, during the years of German invasion - from the direction of occupation authorities (thrice escaped the execution). In 1945 Kohut was arrested as a spy and was sentenced to the long-term imprisonment in Siberia concentration camps. After discharge, being deprived of the right to live in the western part of Ukraine, he had to seek for a job in different parts of the 'unbounded motherland'.
