Stepan Lenkavskyi, one of the co-founders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, its leading ideologist, the author of the Decalogue of a Ukrainian nationalist, the Leader of the Foreign Units of the OUN after the assassination of Stepan Bandera, is a majestic and at the same time modest figure who, until recently, was quite undeservedly overlooked by modern researchers of Ukrainian nationalism.
During 1998–2010, this vacuum was filled to a large extent - the popular science essay "Stepan Lenkavskyi: life path against the background of the history of the OUN", several dozens of scientific and journalistic articles, a collection of works in three volumes, which have already become a bibliographic rarity, was published.
The updated reprint of the works of Stepan Lenkavskyi in four volumes is carried out under the conditions of full introduction of his name and creative heritage into scientific circulation. Increasing interest in the creative heritage of one of the leading ideologues and activists of the OUN is enhanced by objective social trends. The Ukrainian state is going through a difficult stage of forming its national foundations, and Ukrainian nationalism is gaining more and more importance in its political life. At the same time, Europe is experiencing a renaissance of nationalism, and scientific interest in this worldview and political phenomenon is growing in Ukraine.
The first volume of Stepan Lenkavsky's works included his works on the history of Ukrainian nationalism. They have different initial purposes - some purposefully contain its exposition, others were written in the course of the ongoing activities of the OUN and today are a source for its study. Many of the proposed materials have the nature of internal analytics. They were discovered in the foreign archives of the OUN and are being published for the first time. Chronologically, the works of the first volume cover the entire historical period of the development of Ukrainian nationalism.
