This is a story about those who became the origins of the volunteer military movement of the modern formation. In the historical situation that emerged in the early 1990s, these people assumed the responsibility of protecting the national interests of the state that had recently emerged from the ruins of totalitarianism. Having restored their own sovereignty, Ukrainians still had to fight for the unity of their state. The Ukrainians of Transnistria were betrayed and abandoned by the official "Ukrainian" authorities, but Ukrainian national self defence fighters came to their defense.
