This review describes the development of relations between Ukraine and Russia after the Soviet collapse. The author analyzes materials of sociological surveys on the country's accession to the EU and NATO. Particular attention is paid to the events of common history, the Russian language in Ukraine, the transit of Russian gas and the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.
