This is a collection of works by Yuri (Georgy) Dmitrievich Bezsonov (1891–1970), a staff captain in the Life Guards Dragoon Regiment. He fought on the front lines of World War I. Caught in the turmoil of revolutionary events and the Civil War, Bezsonov endured 26 prisons and camps in Soviet Russia in a relatively short period of time. In 1925, as part of a group of five prisoners, he made the first successful escape from the Solovetsky penal servitude across the Finnish border and described the horrors, sadism, and lawlessness of Bolshevik prisons and camps in his memoir, Twenty-Six Prisons and an Escape from Solovki (France, 1928). In 1942, in occupied Paris, Bezsonov published his second book, "The Party of the Strong" (published for the first time in the author's homeland). It contained philosophical reflections on faith and the world order, calling for all Orthodox Christians to unite.
The collection was supplemented with extensive documentary material.
