The central topic of this novel by one of the brightest Lithuanian prose writers is everyday life of the marginal persons of the Soviet epoch, their tragicomic escape from reality. The author dwells on the way of individuals who did not fit into the system, but managed to keep inner autonomy and human dignity in any conditions. The novel “Tuula” was acknowledged as the best Lithuanian book in 1993 and awarded to the Writers' Union Prize of Lithuania.
