Personal attitude to the Latvian architecture of the XXth century of the two Riga's architects presented as a dialogue. Each one has his own perspective, from the viewpoint of his own generation. Modris Gelzis is the Master, whose significance in Latvian XXth century architecture is still awaiting evaluation. In the post-war years, Modris Gelzis had to find his way to contemporary architecture behind the "iron curtain". During the years of Soviet stagnation, Gelzis led "his own" workshop, and during the 1980s he also directed "his own" institute. After independence had been reinstated the architect ran a private practice with a small number of qualified colleagues.
