June 1918. Captain Klym Zhehrai is being sought in the Kyiv restaurant "Continental" by the head of the Hetman's intelligence, Dmytro Buslo. He passes on the order of Pavlo Skoropadskyi to investigate the mysterious murder of the courtier Ihnat Berezovets in Bila Tserkva and to expose the criminals who are looking for valuables in the palace of Countess Maria Branytska. In addition, the mysterious "Tribunal of the Apostles" is in power in Bila Tserkva, which also does not disdain murders. The investigator travels to the city near which he was born and immediately finds himself in the midst of events.
