The tradition of Gagauz carpet weaving art is deeply original and authentic.
Carpets have always played a special role in the life of the Gagauz, in their holidays and rituals, in assessing the socio-economic status, as well as the skill of an individual family.
The art of making a Gagauz carpet was constantly being improved, over the centuries, ornaments, compositions and a special color scheme were selected.
Carpets were made of pure wool and only for the home, they were very beautiful and carefully stored, passed on as family heirlooms from generation to generation. Wool threads were spun and dyed at home using natural dyes. The dye solution was obtained by boiling dried and crushed flower petals, bark or plant roots.
