This is a biography of Todor Alexandrov (1881-1924), a renowned Bulgarian freedom-fighter and politician who led the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (VMRO) and struggled for the liberation of Macedonia from Ottoman Turkish rule. The book presents him not just as a revolutionary and a politician but also as a private individual. Alexandrov's eventful life spans three crucial periods for the Bulgarians in Macedonia: the last years of Ottoman domination, the wars of national unification, and the turbulent times after the 1919 Treaty of Neuilly. Alexandrov represented the so-called second generation of Macedonian activists and was idolized by the oppressed Bulgarians in Macedonia even in his lifetime.
