The Berlin Treaty created the so-called "National Question", which essentially represents the idea of uniting all parts of the Bulgarian nation into a single state structure that would cover the borders of San Stefano or at least those of the Exarchate territory. National and regional leaders, religious leaders, revolutionary figures and old soup cooks suddenly realized that freedom leads to a new, no easier to solve problem. Bulgarians suddenly found themselves in five different state, religious, linguistic, educational and cultural environments, and not spiritual, but real borders were raised on the national body.
Where the nation will go, what the reaction to the peaceful solutions will be, what can be done practically, are all difficult questions that await a solution. They know that a historical fundamental change usually comes once in a generation.
