The current volume starts a new series called Tartu Semiotics Library that aims at revealing semiotics as a young and versatile discipline. The Library includes thematic collections, monographic studies, and lecture notes as well as adaptations which introduce semiotics and the Tartu-Moscow School. The offered issue marks the time of birth of the semiotics of culture and the inherent ties between the present semioticians of Tartu and the Tartu-Moscow School.
