Galina Voronskaya, the author, was born in 1914 in Kem’. Her father had been exiled there for his revolutionary activities. After the October revolution the family moved to Ivanovo, where A.K.Voronsky worked as an editor-in-chief of the “Rabochiy Krai” newspaper. In 1929 he was arrested for his membership in Trotsky’s opposition, and exiled to Lipetsk. Then because of his bad health, he came back to Moscow and stopped his opposition activities. Galina Voronskaya entered the Literary Institute. She was supposed to be among its first graduates, but in February, 1937 her father was arrested and in March her mother and she were arrested, too. Her father was shot to death in August, 1937. Her mother, Sima Voronskaya, was released from a camp during the war as incurable invalid and died soon after that.
