Simultaneously with Eleanor Lord Pray’s Selected Letters, 1894-1906, the Rubezh Press of the Pacific is publishing her Vladivostok Album. One of the two albums reproduced in this volume was given to Eleanor Pray in Vladivostok by Konstantin and Tullie Tyrtov for Christmas 1904; it includes photos taken by Mrs. Pray herself and by Doctor A. K. Stein. The other album is inscribed, in Russian, “Eleonora Georgievna Pray. City of Vladivostok. 15 April 1899.” In 1997, on behalf of the descendants of Mrs. Pray, Patricia Dunn Silver returned these albums to the city which they portray, and they are now preserved in the Primorie State Consolidated Museum Named for V. K. Arseniev, in Vladivostok (known as the “Arseniev Museum”). Without such a generous gift, this album would not exist. Some professionally renovated photos from Eleanor Pray’s book Pis’ma iz Vladivostoka, 1894-1930 (Rubezh Press, 2010) are also presented.
