The publication tells the history of social and humanitarian initiatives of the
USSR Academy of Sciences in the Arctic regions of Yakutia during the period from
1949 to 1991. Introduction of a significant number of archive documents into scientific
researches made it possible to reconstruct the history of organization and conduct the
most important academic pursuits, to determine their trends and outcomes, as well as their contribution to creating a system of objective knowledge about the Arctic regions of Yakutia. As part of research into the topic, a number of pioneering studies have
been conducted to identify the position of the scientific community in the system of
resource model for developing the Arctic territories, and the role of scientists in
formulating the most important government decisions on the development of native
ethnic groups in the region.
