The book by S. Goldfarb is dedicated to life of two provincial intellectuals, Anatoly Shastin, a writer, and Elena Shastina, a folklorist. Being a historian, Goldfarb offers the readers a lot of interesting documents, such as governmental decrees and private correspondence, shorthands of writer's meetings and resolutions of ecological council. But at the same time the author doesn't forget that he is talking about people belonging to culture - a serious writer and a talented scientist.
