The 1925 bombing at the St Nedelya Church in downtown Sofia was the deadliest terrorist attack in Bulgarian history. It killed 134 people and injured another 500. It was carried out by an ultra-left group of the Communist Party, who blew up the church roof during a funeral ceremony for an army general. The aim was to cripple the country's military and political elite. Veteran journalist Velislava Dureva's book is just a sketch of the tragic events of 1925 rather than a full-fledged study. It is a compelling combination of historical documents (some of them unknown to the general public), research talent, surprising discoveries, intense action, a dynamic plot, and insightful analysis.
