The monograph explores the dynamics of political interaction during the revolutionary and civil war period in the Terek region. It analyzes the formation and instability of ethnopolitical alliances, questions of legitimacy, and the triggers of interethnic confrontation in the area. Particular attention is given to political entities such as the Union of the United Highlanders of the North Caucasus and Dagestan, which represented the interests of the indigenous peoples, and the Terek-Dagestan government, where highlander and Cossack elites collaborated. The author also examines the alliances formed between the Bolsheviks and Terek’s religious leaders — Efendi N. Kathanov and Sheikh Uzun-Khadzhi — as well as the consolidation of anti-Bolshevik forces under Denikin's regime.
Author: Osmаn Aslanovich Zhansitov is Candidate of Historical Sciences.
