The break-up of autocracy was the fact, which the soviet historians tried to avoid. Today the end of the Romanovs dynasty is covered in many published documents, which include letters by the tsar and tsarina, memoirs by those, who were close to them and loved them. Although it is known for certain, that the surgeon in ordinary to the tsar made notes every day, his diary was not found. To fill that gap, the author of the present book combined his work as a writer, historian and archivist in order to renew the last hours of the tsar’s family from the point of view of Eugene Botkin, a talented court physician.
