The publication of the present collection is timed to the bicentenary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the USA. It is dedicated to a crucial period in the history of relationship between the two countries, namely, the period of transition to international detente. The whole two-volume edition covers the period of 1969-1976. This particular volume contains documents of 1969-1972. The collection includes previously unpublished Soviet and American documents concerning direct contacts between the USSR and USA leaders. Most of the documents present verbatims of the discussions between A.F.Dobrynin, the USSR ambassador in the USA, and G.Kissinger, the USA National Security Advisor.
