Uglich is one of Russia's oldest towns, first mentioned in the Ipatyevskaya Chronicle of 1148. The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Savior, standing on the water's edge was built in 1713. The green domes and high vaulted ceiling are an architectural marvel. Church paintings and utensils are also very notable.
