The book reconstructs an everyday mental life of European Romantics on the base of German, English and French Romantic texts (letters, diaries, draft fragments etc.). It is shown how the daily activity of romantic imagination transforms real things and processes into symbols and images. Two symbolic spheres of romantic everyday mental life are considered in details: that of love with its basic images of woman, man, androgyne, angel, and that of music with its main categories of sound, tone, accord, harmony reinterpreted by romantics as the universal symbols.
