The analysis of the historical sources shows that the Proto-Bulgars use their own calendar, which is a modification of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. The difference between the two calendars is that the starting year in the sixtieth-years cycle of the Proto-Bulgarian calendar is not the Year of the Rat, but the Year of the Pig. The earliest year in the Nominalia of the Bulgarian khans is 153 AD, which indicates that it was adopted during the second century. The identification of the dates in the Bulgarian calendar with the Gregorian dates allows to determine the years of rule and the order of the Bulgarian khans in the period 665—777 AD.
