Juozas Tumas also known by the pen name Vaizgantas (1869–1933) was a Lithuanian Roman Catholic priest and an activist during the Lithuanian National Revival. He was a prolific writer, editor of nine periodicals, university professor, and member of numerous societies and organizations. The monograph shows that the concept of Vaizgant as a diamond-seeker or Vaizgant-legend established in Lithuanian literature is only part of the external history of his life and work, often obscuring Vaizgant's constant effort to create his inner world, choose values, constantly reflect on the various roles he plays, be able to do a lot what to give up, therefore the monograph focuses on the inner story, the deep level of meaning of which is related to Christian attitudes.
