The study encompasses the history of one of the best-known and distinguished aviation fighter regiments of the Soviet Air Forces. It was formed in July 1941 and operated against Luftwaffe from September 1941 till May 1945. For the outstanding achievements, displaced in the Battle under Stalingrad in September 1942, the regiment was awarded with the Guards rank. The central Soviet award – the Order of Lenin marked military results of the regiment in the battle near the city of Kursk in 1943.
