The book by Irina Ratiani, based on documentary materials, sheds light upon the period of formation of the Georgian cinematograph when films were silent (1912-1934). The author studies Georgian cinema in correlation with the national culture: the traditions of classical Georgian literature, theatre and fine arts. The 1920's were the period of determination of central themes and problems, of foundation of the aesthetic bases of the Georgian cinema.
