The phenomenon of Alexis de Tocqueville is unique: a Frenchman, who came to the USA in the middle of the XIXth century to spend several years there, wrote the “American Democracy”, a book, which is read by every respectful political scientist. His second masterpiece is “The Old Order and the Revolution”, a fundamental examination of the French Revolution, its causes, mechanisms and consequences. And it is still relevant as de Tocqueville is convinced that democracy is inevitable, but it can acquire different forms, be stable or constantly fluctuating, martial or peaceful, rich or poor, liberal or severe, centralized or decentralized. The core question of his book is why such a shocking outbreak took place in one of the strongest, most prosperous and educated countries of Europe and completely changed the way it had looked like.
