This is a study by Bulgarian linguist and ethnographer Tsvetan Todorov (1899-1962), not to be confused with the famous Bulgarian-French philosopher, linguist and historian Tzvetan Todorov (1939-2017). The book makes an exceptional contribution to Bulgarian dialectology. It provides a snapshot of the dialects spoken in the northwest of the country in the 1920s, explains the relationships between them and defines their place in the general system of Bulgarian dialects. In this way, the study delineates the northwestern language border of the Bulgarian people.
