Viktor Petrov (1894–1969) is perhaps the most mysterious Ukrainian intellectual of the 20th century. Several difficult-to-reconcile social identities coexisted in him, which would be enough for several individuals of extraordinary talents. This documentary essay, written in the style of microhistory using the method of detective investigation (from the consequences of the event to its origins), presents Petrov as an NKVD-MDB-KGB agent under the pseudonym "Ivanov".
