The book by E.Kreinovich (1906-1985), a prominent scientist, describes the real events of his life among Nivkhs. In the diary the author narrates in detail about Nivkhs' everyday life, their rituals, customs, religious beliefs. A great number of Nivkh legends and songs are included. Previously published only once (1973), the book offers commentaries and a preface. The revised edition gives more details about the scientist's life, especially in the period of repressions.
