Comparative characteristics of the natural, socio-economic and ecological conditions of natural processes, economic and population development and an4thropogenic impact have been prepared, with identification of similar features and peculiarities, for the regional centers: Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, and Ulaanbaatar. A distinctive feature of the research involved conducting two expeditions in Mongolia (November 2019, and April-May 2022), and using the cartographic method for the study of core structures of the transboundary space. Recommendations have been developed for minimizing environmental transformation and improving the quality of life of the population.
For the first time, the book provides a comprehensive geographical-analytical description of the natural-economic-ecological conditions and processes of the major cities in Lake Baikal Basin. It is intended for geographers, economists and environmentalists of Russia and Mongolia, and will be useful in optimization of the management of urbanized territories, and in the educational process.
