The monograph examines the language of the Bulgarian ethnic community in Austria, which is mainly bilingual. The Bulgarians in Vienna use mainly standard Bulgarian when talking to one another. The intermediate (mixed) language of the Bulgarians in the Austrian capital is discernible mainly in their vocabulary, which is more susceptible to the German influence than the phonetic system or the grammar. There are two types of German transitives in the speech of the Viennese Bulgarians: interferential (which predominate) and re-encoding. The former type are predominantly of lexical nature and change the Bulgarian code only partially, while the latter type are mainly of lexico-syntactic nature and change the code completely.
