Peter Vajda was one of the most successful and richest businessmen in Slovakia in the 1990s. After the fall of communism, he founded the first investment company on our market, which soon became one of the leaders and achieved dizzying success in coupon privatisation. As a successful financier, he had no ambition to get involved in public affairs, but when the values of democracy were threatened, he did not refuse to help several media outlets. His name is particularly associated with the founding of the daily SME. His successful business activities and his association with a daily critical of mečiarism did not go unnoticed by the government. He paid a heavy price, lost almost everything and had to emigrate from Slovakia. The dramatic story of businessman, philanthropist and visionary Petr Vajda remains a complete unknown to the wider public. The book by journalist Petr Vavra is the first attempt to repay this debt.
