For the purpose of practical and theoretical research of applied aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) the interdisciplinary polychotomous methodology and the corresponding dichotomous method were used. On its basis the dialectical definition of categories «artificial intelligence» and «neural networks» and also their delimitation were carried out. Direct study of application of AI was subjected to practice-oriented branches and theoretical-oriented areas. civilian sphere. Its military analogue was investigated by means of polychotomous analysis of potential, real characteristics of armed forces of both friendly and unfriendly countries of Russia. Interrelated, consecutive stages of formation, development of ideas about artificial intelligence abroad and in Russia were recorded extremely briefly. Its main developers are noted. The list of advanced, high-tech countries famous for their achievements in AI research is given.
