Basing on closed before archival materials and published sources, the material given in the monograph views the formation and functioning of censorial system in the Soviet Russia. The role of Central Committee authorities - Politbiuro, Orgbiuro and Secretariat in the organization and management of Glavlit (state agency of centralized censure) is revealed in the book. Istpart and the Institute of Lenin, which performed the censure functions, are in the center of attention. This is one of the first books revealing the censure not of the belles-lettres and publicism, but of the literature with historical meaning, works written by professional historians.
