The concept of the book is a fundamental revision of views on the causes of the events of late 2013 - early 2014 in Ukraine. Their real background was Vladimir Putin's strategic plan to change the rules of the game in the EU gas market, while at the same time integrating Ukraine into the EAEC and Customs Union structures after its economic weakening.
The last revolution, according to Putin's plan, was to be resolutely suppressed by the authorities and qualified as a failed coup d'état attempt. He planned that the armed conflict between security forces and "radical nationalists" would break out not in the East, but in the West of Ukraine. Its consequence would be the cessation of the transit of Russian gas through main gas pipelines laid through the Ukrainian Carpathians back in Soviet times. Therefore, the European Union, being on the brink of an energy disaster, should remove restrictions on the import of Russian gas prescribed in the Third Energy Package regarding the active "North Stream" and promote the construction of "South Stream".
In the author's opinion, Putin's plan was not implemented due to a combination of circumstances, namely: Yanukovych's indecision, the intervention of the United States (by putting pressure on Ukrainian oligarchs) and the successful work of the parliament on February 21-22, 2014. Yanukovych's self-removal from the duties of the President of Ukraine and the recognition by the world's leading countries of the new government in Kyiv became extremely unfavorable for Putin to implement his scenario and dealt a devastating blow to relations with the European Union and the United States in the energy industry, which is critical for Russia.
