The book is about the Siege of Adrianople which took place between November 1912 and March 1913 during the First Balkan War. The siege ended with the capture of Adrianople (Edirne) by the Bulgarian and Serbian armies. It is considered a glorious moment in Bulgarian military history. The events are described here from the point of view of people who participated in them. The author spent two years collecting written memoirs, letters and notes from over 80 officers, soldiers, politicians, foreign media correspondents and civilians. He thus produced the longest and most exhaustive book on the subject. "The Last Stronghold" is about the ordinary people who carried the dream of united Bulgaria at the tips of their bayonets.
