Maria Sierotwinska-Rewicka (1937-2011) – independence opposition activist, journalist and Polish language teacher. In 1980, she was one of the founders of the NSZZ "Solidarnosc" in Malopolska. Interned on 13 December 1981, despite her very poor health, she was held in prison for 7.5 months. After being released, she left for the United States. Throughout her stay in the USA, she worked for the Polish Solidarity opposition. She returned to Poland on 13 December 1991 and began her activity in the structures of the Democratic Union, and then the Freedom Union. In 2004, she was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit, and in 2008 – the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. In 2015, she posthumously received the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity. Berenika Rewicka – a graduate of cultural studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University and English Philology at the Pedagogical University of Krakow. For years she lived in California, USA, where she finished high school and university.
