This is the first comprehensive publication about the existence of postal services in this region from ancient times to the present. The book discusses the origin and development of postal systems — including steamboat and railway mail, experimental apothecary mail (introduced only in a few Russian provinces), airmail and courier services, telegraphs, official correspondence, postmarks, and local philately.
It will be of interest to readers throughout Russia, as it covers little-known chapters of medieval Volga postal history, as well as the Russian Imperial and Soviet postal systems. An engaging narrative style, vivid language, and numerous illustrations will appeal to a broad readership.
Authors: Demid Alexandrovich Ustinov is a local historian, corresponding member of the Russian National Academy of Philately. Alexander Konstantinovich Ievlev. Vyacheslav Nikolaevich Ilyin.
