More than 150 years ago the noted traveler and writer, W.F. Hamilton wrote: ‘What between my anxiety to see the ruins of Ani and the annoyance of vermin, I was unable to close my eyes all nights.' Mr. Hamilton, who traveled extensively through Turkey and Armenia, wrote those words in 1835. If we were to trace his route today he would find the ruins of Ani there still, but no doubt with more deterioration as the ravages of both man and nature continue to rapidly lesson the remains each passing day.
