Dr. Edith Eva Eger was sixteen years old when the Nazis arrived in her hometown in Hungary, Kassa, and were taken to Auschwitz with her family. His parents were sent to a gas chamber by the infamous Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele, who later asked Edith to dance the Blue Danube orbit - he was rewarded with a loaf of bread.
Edith and her sister survived the horrors and decided to forgive her inmates and enjoy life every day. Years after her release, she went to college and studied to be a psychologist, and today she helps abused women with post-traumatic stress, addiction or grief, among other things.
The decision is both a memoir and a guide designed to help all of us get out of the prison of our own minds. Dr. Eger's work gives hope and opportunity to all who want to get rid of pain and suffering. Whether they are plagued by the imprisonment of a bad marriage, a toxic family, or a hated job, or are held in their own minds by the barbed wire of self-limiting beliefs, this book teaches us that we can choose to choose joy and freedom regardless of the circumstances.
