The monograph is the first special study devoted to the history of the German school of Yekaterinburg, opened at the initiative of V. N. Tatishchev and operated in 1735-1786. The role of Tatishchev in the opening of this educational institution, the search for teachers, the formation and completion of the book collection is revealed. Children of the local administration from all state-owned factories of the Urals were attracted to the school, children of nobles from the Siberian province were invited, but the main part of the students were children of artisans and workers, soldiers trained in Russian literacy. While in a German school, they simultaneously studied language, studied mathematics, drawing, many young men received vocational training. Graduates worked as translators with foreigners who worked under contract in the Ural factories, were assigned to foreign specialists for training in mining and factory work. School activities played a role in the development of Yekaterinburg as a center of culture of the Russian province.
