The author considers the Russian history in the context of the history of the empire. The XIXth century was full of deep contradictions. This is one of the great critical periods of Russia: the reign of Alexander, draft of M.M.Speransky, the War of 1812, Decembrists movement, the ideological struggle of the 30-40s, the reforms of Alexander II and counter-reforms of Alexander III, the emergence of revolutionary situations, etc. The XXth century also started with wars and revolutions. The collapse of the Imperial Russia has come suddenly. The First World war and the Civil War, the red terror and the party clean, the fight against the enemies of Soviet power, the construction of communism – all that was only a mask covering the power of bureaucratic elites. And Stalin has begun to revive the empire.
