In her new book V.K.Afanasiyeva, the Doctor of Historical sciences, State Prize laureate and leading research worker of the State Hermitage Oriental Department, tries to follow the way of the human idea concerning broadening of the perception limits. She bases on the materials of pictorialism and literature of Ancient Mesopotamia. Basing on a mysterious and absorbing ancient Babylon legend about the flight of a human being on the eagle, the author shows almost a 2000-year evolution of such mythological units as “human coition – the snake”, “the eagle – the snake”, “the knowledge of a lion-headed eagle Anzud – the snake’s knowledge”. She also investigates how and in which magic practices these mythological units could be realized.
