The Domovoy remains the most popular character in Russian folklore. This book examines the origins, functions, and interactions of this figure with humans, focusing on its transformation in authorial literary texts. The authors propose a unique methodology for analyzing folkloric images in literature by constructing a cultural matrix of the "Domovoy" and applying it to works from the 18th to the 21st centuries. Surprisingly, many literary figures not explicitly labeled as Domovoy still share its traits and functions.
