In 1902, Nikolai Marr, during an expedition to Jerusalem to the Monastery of the Holy Cross, discovered the text of the Life of St. Gregory of Khanty" Georgy Merchule. He rewrote it and began preparing it for publication. Prior to the publication of the Life, the scientist traveled in 1904 to the historical provinces of Southwestern Georgia, Shavsheti and Klarjeti, and described the places he saw associated with the activities of Gregory of Khanty. As a result, the work published in 1911, which is considered one of the pinnacles of his rich scientific biography, consisted of the following parts: an introduction, the Georgian text “The Life of St. Gregory of Khanty”, his translation into Russian and “Diary of a trip to Shavsheti and Klarjeti”. The present edition presents only the last part of the work in phototype form with corresponding indexes and illustrations.
