The author traces political history of England at the turn of the Early and Classic Middle Ages in the framework of the historical development of the whole northwest region in Europe. Much attention is paid to the relationship between England and Scandinavia, and to the cultural integration of pre-Norman England in the “world of Vikings”. The history of England is examined in the light of the two turning points, which caused significant consequences: the conquest of England by the Danish at the beginning of the XIth century, and that by the Norman in the second half of the XIth century. The author renews the events, explores economic, political, social, ethnic and cultural consequences of the two conquests, which totally differed from each other because of social and economic peculiarities of the conquerors.
