In the year of the 125th anniversary of Mikhail Yakovlevich Syuzyumov (1893-1982), Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, founder of the Sverdlovsk School of Byzantine Studies, his conceptual work “The Byzantine State and Byzantine Culture in the X-XI Century” is published for the first time. The manuscript of the historical essay is in the personal collection of M.Ya. Syuzyumov in the State Archive of the Sverdlovsk Region. In the introductory article, which is based on unpublished archival documents, A.S. Mokhov and K.R. Kapsalykov provides new data on the scientific activities of the outstanding Soviet Byzantinist in the 1930-1940s.
