In this book, Vera Mutafchieva, a well-known Bulgarian historian, novelist and screenwriter, shares her memories of the bombings of the Bulgarian capital Sofia during World War II. Mutafchieva, who was around 15 at the time, describes the destruction wrought by the air raids and the ruined lives of evacuated and displaced residents. Everything is presented through the eyes of ordinary people affected by the war. In a sense, "The Bombs" is the diary of a teenager who suddenly grows into an adult during the war. She has to bear the trauma throughout her whole life.
